sunshine

The sun was shining brightly today as temps reached 25 for most of the day. Winds were coming from the South west at 1-3 miles making the windchill the same as the temperature outside. Looking at readings from the UWEC metstation it looks like the barometric pressure is on the rise meaning that we should have clear skies tonight, meaning colder temps. Altough it looks like the humidity is also on the rise so I expect some cloud cover later tonight and into tomorrow. This means we will most likely have warmer temps as winds continue to come from the southwest tomorrow. Cloud cover should be somewhere around 50-60% tomorrow, my guess is we will probably see some midlevel cumulus clouds.

clearing it out

My predictions were on the right track for today as clouds began to discipate by early afternoon and it is currently sunny with almost no cloud cover. Temps are hovering around 12 degrees right now due to the lack of cloud cover even though it is sunny. It looks like we should be seeing similar conditions outside through the weekend as a band of high pressure comes through the area. We might see some snow showers later tonight and later in the weekend.

feeling a bit under the weather

Today started off with full stratus cloud cover making the temperature on the ground feel pretty warm. The winds were coming from the North, North west at around 4-5 miles per hour every time I was outside today. After 3 p.m. clouds were thinning out as a high pressure system made its way through Eau Claire. Temps hovered around 31 degrees. Winds should continue to come from the North west into tomorrow as winds come from Canada down across Wisconsin into the low pressure system in Missouri . Predictions for tomorrow chillier temps due to the wind direction, most likely some thick stratus cloud cover again in the morning that should thin out in the afternoon.

Cloudy with a chance of meatballs?

Stepping outside the first thing i noticed was the 100% cloud cover we have outside right now. Those clouds helped to trap warmer air last night and into this morning like I predicted. Temps right now are sitting at 31 degrees, with winds coming from the southeast at 3 mph. Late tonight it looks like we have a chance of getting a few flurries as a low front passes over eau claire. Tomorrow and Friday will most likely be much chillier as a series of low fronts come down from Canada bringing chillier temperatures.

digging out

After a few days of some pretty heavy snow, today was a sign of better days to come, at least the sky looked that way. At around 3 p.m the temps felt pretty warm with the sun shining through about 50% lower and mid level cumulus cloud cover cloud cover. Temperatures reached highs of 27 degrees today with the wind coming from the South. The temperature felt a little colder than it was though with the windchill factor it felt more like 17 degrees. For tomorrow I expect those clouds from today to continue through the night and we should see some pretty cloudy skies for tomorrow. Looking at the pressure systems around the country it looks like we should continue to get our winds from the southeast as a high pressure system moves through to the southwest and north east of us.

Bizzard

US: Current Weather

Its been a rough day or two with heavy snow coming since Early Saturday morning. That snow didn't really slow down until late today. Snowfall totals from the Eau Claire area read about 10-12 inches over the past two days. Temps were around 20 degrees this afternoon with about 60% cloud cover and winds from the East. Cooler winds will come late tonight and into tomorrow morning from the north As High presssure flows from Canada down into the low pressure system in Tennesee. Predictions for tomorrow: Similar temps as today around 20 degrees with a cold wind chill temp the temperature outside will feel more like 12-16 degrees. Cloudy skies and a chance for a bit of sun to shine through tomorrow, which might raise temperatures up a bit.

Hazy but warm

Feb 17,2011
I was expecting a bit of a sunnier day out, but I was suprised when I stepped outside to still have some warmer temps. Cloud cover was at 100% and around 9 a.m. there was a bit of a mist outside that tapered off after 10. Temperature right now at 1 is 44 degrees with a pretty slow wind from the south. The dewpoint reading from the Eau Claire Metstation is 29.31 in Hg and Falling Rapidly, which leads me to believe we might see some clouds dissapearing a little later in the day, with the possibility of a few showers or flurries later tonight as well. Tommorrow will be a bit chiller as a low pressure system moves in from the rockies. This system will also bring us some heavier winds by mid day.

Heat wave : summer time

Feb 16, 2011

<---- Protestors on the campus mall got some nice weather

If you stepped outside today at all you might have thought that summer came early. Temps topped off around 50 today with some high level cirrus clouds covering about 25% of the sky around the noon hour. Winds were once again coming from the east-south east pretty slowly, at times I would say we didn't have any wind at all. Tonight might bring us some rain or flurries depending how quickly the temp drops. It looks like our dew point outside is sitting at a  pretty 28.9 degrees ferenheit with pressure taking a pretty steep dive after 4 o'clock. Outlook for the next couple of days looks to be pretty warm and mild again. Tommorrow should be even cloudier with all of the evaporation from today. I expect warmer temps into tomorrow with a slight possibility of precipitation in the late afternoon.

Heat Wave: Day 3

Tuesday Feb 15, 2011

I missed a day in my weather blog, but never fear I will recap the previous two days and provide an outlook for tomorrow's temps. We have seen quite the "warm" temps over the past three days. With high pressure systems on both sides of us and a zonal jet stream which has let us escape from the cooler winds from the north. Temps topped out at 41 degrees Monday with winds coming from the West at about 5-10 miles per hour. I saw some higher level cumulus clouds later in the day which helped keep some of that warmer air trapped in.  Today was a bit chillier to start off but it warmed up as the day progressed. Temps reached 36 degrees today with winds coming from the Southwest off of the high pressure system over Michigan. There was pretty minimal cloud cover when I got out of class at 3, a few stratus clouds were hanging around in the sky. I think we should see warmer temps into tomorrow due to a higher level of cloud cover that is visible on the satellite moving across the Dakotas. I expect winds should be coming from the South east as that high pressure system continues to move Eastward.

Heat wave

February 11,2011

morning temps didn't show it but later in the day we are starting to see signs of this "heat wave" we have all been hearing about. Winds were coming from the east at about five miles per hour most of the day. The mid morning was partly sunny with about 50% cloud cover but as the day progressed overcast conditions came in. Those clouds helped trap in the heat bringing milder temps by late afternoon. Along with the cloud cover we saw a bit of snow flurries after 2 o'clock, which I expect to continue until later tonight. I expect the cloud conditions and wind to continue overnight which means we might see some above zero temps tonight.

chillin

February 10,2011

Yet another day of chilly temps fell upon the Eau Claire area as we continue to get some cold air from
Canada that should last until tomorrow. Temps reached -2 degrees today with winds primarily out of the south/ southwest at less than 5 miles per hour. Cloud cover today was nowhere to be found, meaning that the sunny conditions didn't really make a difference. For tomorrow on into the weekend, I expect to see temperatures rise as the jetstream makes its way North and heads in a more longitudinal direction. With increased temperatures I expect to be seeing more cloud cover as temps become warm enough for us to see some evaporation. These clouds should stick around through the weekend helping trap in warmer air.

Warmer temps in the near future?

February 9,2011

It might be a lovely 7.5 degrees outside but temps still feel in the negative digits. Winds were coming from the West for most of the day and we had about 30% cloud cover. It looks like we will have a change of pace for the rest of the week with some above 0 temps as we get some warm winds coming from the South tomorrow through the end of the week. We should get some added help with heavier cloud cover tomorrow, which will help trap in the warmer air.

I hate the bridge

February 8, 2011

This morning was one heck of a chilly walk across the bridge coming to classes. With the jet stream bringing extremely chilly air from Canada into the Dakotas eastward the air felt like -12 below zero even though thermometers were reading temps in the single digits. Minimal cloud cover meant that even though the sun was shining, the warmth wasn't being trapped. It looks like we should see more of the same chilly air from Canada into tomorrow with more sunny conditions and minimal cloud cover. Later on in the week though models are showing a pretty big dip in the jet stream to the south which should bring us some above freezing temperatures by later in the week and on into the weekend.

jack frost nipping at your nose, and entire face

February 7, 2011

Some bitterly cold air coming from Canada made today one pretty chilly Monday. The temperature topped out today at a whopping 10 degrees Fahrenheit. But factoring in the wind chill temps felt much colder. High level clouds won't help keep any of the heat in over night and temps should drop below zero by tonight . Tomorrow morning will be a chilly start to a chilly day again with even more of the country set to experience some jack frost love as the cold northern air flows down toward Texas and Oklahoma for the next few days. I expect pretty similar cloud and wind conditions to continue through tomorrow night.

summer time already?

Feb 4, 2011

I was almost positive that the ground hog might have actually made the right prediction when I stepped outside today. Temps were in the high 20s with heavy mid level cumulus cloud cover for most of the day. With winds coming from the south, we had much warmer temps in comparison to earlier in the week. It looks like we will continue with the warming trend through out the weekend. With the possibility of some snow tomorrow night due to the humidity being higher with the warmer temps. Even though we might see some more of the white stuff this weekend temps will continue to flow into the high pressure system in the midwest bringing winds from the south and warmer temps over the weekend.

Warmer weather what?

February 3,2011

Those warmer temps that I predicted didn't seem as warm as I thought today when I stepped outside. With winds stating to come moderately from the south/ south west temperatues got up to about 20 degrees today. This was aided a little bit by some higher level cumulo-type clouds. Looking at surface pattern maps it looks like a high pressure sustem is rolling through the central part of the country bringing winds rushing in from the south for the next day or two, meaning some "warmer" air for us. I'm predicting similar cloud cover tomorrow with the possibility of some lower level clouds and temps in the upper twenties for tomorrow.

its going to be a bright sun shiny day

February 2, 2011

Temperatures outside are pretty tolerable, given the fact that a large portion of the midwest is covered in over a foot of snow. Winds are coming pretty slowly from the North/Northwest. Cloud cover is light with a few high level clouds in the South. With the sun out today temps are at 13 degrees, but it seems much warmer to me. Looking at weather patterns from the weather underground it looks like those clouds will move in from the south later on in the day bringing us some cloud cover for the evening. It looks like the clouds should hang around through tomorrow, which should bring us some warmer temps.

Oh hey February!

February 1, 2011

Looking from the inside, today might have looked a bit warm.. but looks can be deceiving, temps topped out at around 16 degrees today, with the windchill it felt more like 8. With moderate winds coming from the north, chilly air flooded into the Midwest today as part of a massive system ready to strike this part of the country with loads of snow. The good news, Eau Claire won't be on the receiving end of this storm. With the center of the system located near St. Louis. Cloud cover was sparse today with some lower lying clouds scattered across the sky. Looking at information from the National Weather service it looks like the clouds will clear out tonight, leaving us with some pretty chilly temps over night and into tomorrow afternoon.
